Yolanda Wanakamik

Yolanda Wanakamik is a proud Anishinaabe kwe and a member of Whitesand First Nation, a professional with over twenty years of progressive experience within education, social services, healthcare, and private sectors dedicated to integrating structure, policy, evaluation, and programs that most effectively influence a strategic community vision while maintaining strong relations.  A lifelong learner, who champions the values of multi-sector engagement, mobilizing ideas, skills and passion of like-minded community organizations, government, and people.  Known as a broad and progressive thinker with a participative style that develops learning communities designed to incorporate an open space for dialogue to move toward common desired goals as a network of influencers.
Yolanda earned an Honours Bachelor of Political Science, 1998 and Master of Education, 2020 at Lakehead University and is past President of the Lakehead University Alumni Association and past Governor of Lakehead University.  In addition, Yolanda has served as a volunteer to several community organizations in the region. Most recently, Yolanda took on the role of Executive Director at Nokiiwin Tribal Council with past experience at the Ontario Native Women's Association as the Director of Community Development, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University as the Director of Indigenous Affairs and in years previous at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care as the Integrated Policy Officer and Lakehead University as the Coordinator of Graduate Studies and Acting Vice Provost, Indigenous Initiatives.  Yolanda is known as a broad and progressive thinker with a participative style that develops learning communities designed to incorporate an open space for dialogue to move toward common desired goals as a network of influencers.
