President - ThawiKayhiGan Group

Jonathon Mamakwa is President of ThawiKayhiGan Group, also known as TKG Group, a 100 per cent First Nation owned business development organization equally owned by six First Nations in northwestern Ontario. Since TKG’s establishment in 2018, Jonathon has played a central role in shaping the organization’s growth, vision, and community impact, guiding it from its origins in major infrastructure contracting to a diversified regional enterprise focused on procurement, logistics, fuel services, retail, training, and long term legacy businesses.

A proud member of Kingfisher Lake First Nation, Jonathon’s leadership is deeply grounded in community values, cultural respect, and a clear commitment to First Nation self determination. He is widely known for his collaborative, thoughtful approach and his belief that strong business development must be led by and for First Nations.

Jonathon’s professional career reflects decades of experience in Indigenous led business and regional economic development. Prior to leading TKG Group, he served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Wasaya Airways LP, one of Canada’s largest First Nations owned airlines. In that role, he supported service expansion, community relationships, and strategic growth across northern and remote communities.

Earlier in his career, Jonathon also served as President of the board of Landmark Inn Partnership Ltd., a multi First Nation investment consortium in Thunder Bay. Through this role, he championed First Nation ownership, employment opportunities, and the importance of keeping economic benefits within Indigenous communities. During this time, he publicly emphasized that First Nations business investments should create jobs and generate dividends that directly support community priorities.

Jonathon began his career working for Kingfisher Lake First Nation, where he gained firsthand experience in community administration, local priorities, and economic development. This early work shaped his long standing commitment to building practical, community driven solutions that improve quality of life and economic opportunity for First Nations.

Under Jonathon’s leadership, TKG Group has achieved significant milestones, including its involvement in the Wataynikaneyap Power Project, the 2023 acquisition of Oshtugon Computers Inc., and the development of the new First Nation owned fuel depot in Pickle Lake through Pipestone Fuels and Supplies LP. He has also been instrumental in advancing TKG’s regional procurement and logistics strategy and expanding training and employment pathways for First Nation youth.

Jonathon is especially focused on lowering the cost of goods in northern communities, strengthening local supply chains, and building capacity so that First Nations can lead and sustain their own economic future. He consistently frames TKG’s work as Reconciliation through Business and Economic Development, ensuring that growth is rooted in community benefit, cultural respect, and long term sustainability.He continues to work closely with TKG’s Board of Directors, community leaders, and regional partners to build strong, responsible, and community owned enterprises that will create opportunity for generations to come.
