James Maxwell

James Maxwell is a professional geoscientist with over 25 years of industry experience specializing in the exploration and development of Archean gold deposits, having contributed to several major gold discoveries in Nunavut and the Red Lake district of Ontario. He is currently Vice President of Exploration and Project Operations at First Mining Gold Corp., where he has spent the past five years advancing the Springpole Gold Project. Previously, James served as Director of Exploration at Sabina Gold & Silver Corp., helping establish a 6.0-million-ounce gold resource from discovery through advanced studies and into development. Earlier in his career, he worked in the Birch-Uchi and Red Lake Greenstone belts, where his team received the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association Discovery of the Year Award. James is a long-standing member of the PDAC Health & Safety Committee, was a speaker at the 2024 Prosperity Northwest Conference, and is passionate about advancing inclusion and Indigenous participation across the full mining and minerals value chain. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences from the University of Manitoba and is registered with Professional Geoscientists Ontario and the Ordre des Géologues du Québec.
